Types of Drug Detox Centers
There are many different types of drug detox centers and each type provides a range of services for addicts. Some drug detox centers provide around the clock monitoring while others incorporate a more lax system of monitoring addicts during the drug detoxification process. Some of the drug detox centers provide affordable or free drug detox options that are largely subsidized or funded by state or community based programs while others are more costly. Regardless of which type of drug detox you choose, all drug detox centers have the primary goal of helping addicts to safely and effectively eliminate addiction or physical dependence on drugs so that they can smoothly transition into a long term drug treatment program.
The most common types of drug detox centers include:
- Inpatient drug detox centers
- Outpatient drug detox centers
- Rapid drug detox centers
- Free drug detox centers
- Prescription drug detox centers
Inpatient Drug Detox Centers
Inpatient drug detox centers provide around the clock medical supervision that assures the safety of the addict during the drug detoxification process. These drug detox centers provide various types of medical intervention and other services that are aimed at helping addicts overcome physical dependence and safely detox from drugs. Inpatient drug detox centers provide the addict with a place to live during the drug detoxification process which typically lasts 5-14 days depending on the severity of the addiction as well as the type of drug that the individual is addicted to.
Outpatient Drug Detox Centers
Outpatient drug detox centers do not offer the same level of support as an inpatient drug detox center does and they cannot provide the addict with a place to live during the drug detoxification process, however these drug detox centers do provide many of the same services as an inpatient drug detox center. Outpatient drug detox centers provide medication, physician monitoring and guidance as well as screenings during the drug detoxification process.
Rapid Drug Detox Centers
Rapid drug detox centers provide a type of drug detoxification that is typically reserved for those who are addicted to opiates such as prescription painkillers or heroin. This type of drug detox is considered to be highly dangerous as it requires the patient to be placed in a medically induced coma during the drug detox process. This coma is induced through general anesthesia which is dangerous in itself.
Free Drug Detox Centers
Free drug detox centers provide affordable drug detox options for those who may otherwise be unable to afford drug detox. These programs are most often subsidized by the local government or community organizations such as church groups or other community programs that partner up to provide services that will help reduce the level of drug abuse in an area. Free drug detox centers provide many of the same services as a traditional drug detox program but at either completely free or very affordable rates.
Prescription Drug Detox Centers
Prescription drug detox centers provide a safe environment where individuals can detox from prescription medications such as painkillers, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, stimulants or depressants. Prescription medication abuse has become a significant problem in the US. Thousands of people suffer from prescription drug addiction and can benefit from the help offered at prescription drug detox centers across the country.
